Central New York’s tap water scores the best in the state

It’s no secret that some cities have much better drinking water than others, and apparently you’ll find the best in the state in this big city in central New York.

When you visit a new city for an extended period of time, the question is almost always asked, “What’s the water like?” While in some places water is safe enough to drink straight from the tap, other places provide visitors with bottled water.

ITAMG decided to survey travelers to determine the cities with the worst and best tap water. Shocking absolutely no one, a poll of 3,000 travelers found that Detroit has the worst water of all.

And it’s no surprise to anyone that New York City’s water is voted the second least drinkable in the country. As someone who has lived in the Big Apple for several years, I can confidently say that this place is Brita or bust. That water was NOT tasty.

However, the study argues that the reputation is somewhat unfair, as New York gets its city water from protected reservoirs in the Catskill, Delaware and Croton watersheds. It is then thoroughly treated and tested before flowing through the pipes in people’s homes.

Buffalo also made the list and was found to have the 10th least drinkable water in the country. The study also claimed the vote was unfair, explaining that the city gets its water from Lake Erie and conducts regular testing to ensure safety.

Other cities further down the list included Yonkers at 80th and Rochester at 109th.

Conversely, only one city from New York managed to get high marks for water quality and that would be Syracuse. The research said:

Syracuse’s tap water comes from Skaneateles Lake. It undergoes minimal treatment due to its naturally high quality, resulting in a clean and fresh taste with minimal chlorine or chemical flavors. Residents and visitors generally consider the water quality to be excellent and safe to drink.

Interesting to think that Central New York has some of the most highly regarded tap water in the entire country.

For those who want to scroll through the full list of 245 cities that were part of the nationwide survey, here are the rankings below.

New York’s most miserable cities

According to Road Snacks, these are the 10 most miserable cities in New York, because apparently everything goes wrong there.

As for what determines how miserable a city is, Road Snacks compared 169 cities using census data and other scientific material from other “legitimate” sources. They looked at divorce rates, commute times, costs of living and other statistics to compile this ‘fun’ new list.

Ultimately, these ten cities were considered the bleakest in New York State.
