Cousins identified as two killed in plane crash near South Lake Tahoe

ALPINE COUNTY – The people who died in a plane crash in Alpine County on Wednesday evening have been identified as cousins.

The plane took off from Lodi but never reached South Lake Tahoe Airport. It crashed in the mountains 10 miles south of the airport.

Pilot Sam Jones and passenger Nanette Singer died in the crash. They were cousins and their pre-World War II aircraft had been in the family for generations.

Nanette was 80 years old, a retired teacher and an active volunteer with the Lodi Police Department. Her daughter says she always smiled.

“I know she wasn’t afraid to get on the plane,” said Gabriella Singer, Nanette’s daughter. “I’ve just been blessed with all the support from all the people she’s obviously touched, which is a lot, but I’m not surprised.”

Gabrielle said her mother and uncle planned to spend the weekend at a family timeshare in Lake Tahoe.

She says she’s grateful volunteers were able to locate the wreck, bringing closure to her family.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
