Girls in Unity Field Day went to Carrie J. Mays Park in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — An event taking place this month aims to bring girls together for a day of fun and unity.

The Girls in Unity Field Day Old School vs. New School will take place on June 22 from 11am to 2pm at the Carrie Mays Park Community Center. It is organized by nonprofits Because Butterflies Are Blue and Precious Pros Mentoring. The Field Day combines old school and new school activities, such as the three-legged race and double Dutch jump rope, to show girls the value of unity and having fun together. It’s free, but donations are welcome.

Open to all girl groups, programs and organizations.

Shonta Bradley and Wallisa Lankford joined Shawn on Good Morning Augusta weekend to discuss the event, their organizations and what’s next.
