Coach Smith, the Spartans will soon find out where one of their top targets will sign

Michigan State and Coach Jonathan Smith are having a busy June period. Coach Smith and his coaching staff have reached out to as many recruits as possible in recent weeks to express Michigan State’s interest in them. The Spartans have continued to use June as an opportunity to improve their prospective recruiting classes.

The Spartans are expected to soon hear from a recruit in the 2025 recruiting class about where he will attend school after he graduates high school next summer. Smith and his coaching staff have prioritized three-star and in-state players during their recruiting journey.

Jayden Savory, a 2025 three-star tight end, checks both boxes, making him a prized recruit for Smith and the Spartans.

Savory recently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce June 17 as the date he will choose which college football program he will play for. A native of Orchard Lake, Michigan, Savory would be one of the most talented recruits to sign for the Spartans’ 2025 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, Savory is ranked as the 41st best tight end in the 2025 recruiting class and the 17th best player from Michigan. Overall, the site ranks him as the 876th best prospect in the class of 2025. In addition to Michigan State, Kansas, BYU and Duke are also in consideration for Savory.

Savory, who visited East Lansing a few weeks ago, is believed to be leaning toward signing with the Spartans. However, Michigan State has stiff competition for Savory’s services. Fortunately for Smith and the Spartans, Savoury would stay much closer to home if he signs with Michigan State.

Smith believes offering players the opportunity to stay in their home state, be much closer to home and play in front of family and friends will be enough to lure Michigan recruits.

As Michigan State enters its first season under Smith, it must find ways to complete deals with as many talented players as possible, especially those from Michigan. Smith and his coaching staff have devised a simple but sensible recruiting process. If they can secure players like Savory, this could be one of the best decisions during Smith’s young tenure in East Lansing.
