EGLE is declaring Monday as Clean Air Action Day for West Michigan counties

LANSING, Mich. – The state declared Monday Clean Air Action Day for eight West Michigan counties.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy made the announcement Sunday morning.

The 13 counties listed include Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Kent, Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa and Van Buren counties in West Michigan.

Other affected counties included Benzie, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Manistee and Mason counties.

EGLE says forecast weather conditions will allow ozone to form in large enough quantities to cause problems for people sensitive to the gas.

To prevent ozone buildup, do not fill up with fuel, use gas lawn mowers, put lighter fluid on your charcoal grill, or light a fire on Mondays during the day.

EGLE also recommends closing the windows of your home and using air conditioning to circulate air and limit the still outside air.

People sensitive to ozone should rigorously limit outdoor activities.
