FSU baseball clinch spot in College World Series, defeat UConn in Super Regional

The state of Florida is heading to Omaha, Nebraska.

The Seminoles defeated the UConn Huskies 10-8 in 12 innings on Saturday in Game 2 of the Tallahassee Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the College World Series.

FSU defeated UConn with a James Tibbs III home run, his third of the game, in which Max Williams also scored to take the 10-8 lead in the top of the 12th inning.

The Seminoles reaching the College World Series marks their 24th appearance in program history and first time since 2019.

FSU awaits the winner of the NCAA Super Regional series between Tennessee and Evansville, which is tied at 1-1 after the Purple Aces defeated the Volunteers 10-8 on Saturday. Tennessee and Evansville meet again on Sunday to determine the winner of the series.

Three is UP! FSU’s James Tibbs III hits home run No. 3 against UConn in NCAA Super Regional Game Two

Hit those three home runs for FSU slugger James Tibbs III.

He homered to right field, scoring Max Williams to take a 10–8 lead for the Seminoles over the UConn Huskies in the top of the twelfth inning.

Tibbs is the first Seminole to hit three home runs in one game since Stephen Cardullo in 2010.

Charles has taken the place of Brennan Oxford. Oxford finished the day with 2.1 innings pitched and allowed three walks, one hit and one earned run after facing eleven batters.

Charles enters Saturday with 28 appearances, a 1-0 record and two saves.

Brennan Oxford has come into the game to relieve Jamie Arnold. Oxford has played 28 matches this season with a 2-0 win-loss record.

Arnold ends Saturday with 5.1 innings and 27 batters facing him. The All-ACC First Teamer allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned) and a 2.59 ERA.

James Tibbs III and Marco Dinges hit back-to-back home runs to take a 5-2 lead for the Seminoles over the UConn Huskies.

Tibbs hit his second home run of the day, going to right center and scoring Cam Smith. Dinges immediately followed with a homering to centerfield.

Tibbs has 27 home runs this season, passing Buster Posey and Chris Cawthon for sixth most in program history. Tibbs is connected to Mike Fuentes.

Tibbs also has 53 career home runs, passing Mike McGee for fifth most in Seminoles history.

Seminoles great Jamie Arnold has racked up 150 strikeouts in one season.

It’s the first time a Seminoles pitcher has accomplished the feat since Paul Wilson did it in 1994, according to FSU Sports Information.
