Race officials also announced a special ticket offer for the Austin weekend. Fans can get two tickets for the price of one on the COTA website through June 23. A three-day general admission pass starts at $69.

The WEC is the most important enduro series in the world. It includes manufacturers such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette and BMW. About 35 cars are on the track at the same time, racing in the Le Mans Hypercar and LMGT3 classes.

The international cast of drivers at Le Mans includes former Formula 1 racers such as Jenson Button, Romain Grosjean and Kamui Kobayashi. Nine-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi will make his WEC debut this season.

Lequien said more than 70,000 fans attended the three days at Imola in Italy this spring, a sign that interest in the WEC is increasing.
