Recently, Nicole Phelps took to her Instagram Story to celebrate the bond the Phelps family shares with Allison Schmitt. It came about by re-sharing Allison’s Instagram story with the street name Schmitt. The City of Indianapolis honorably renamed one of its downtown streets Schmitt in honor of the swimmer’s achievement.

Meanwhile, Michael Phelps has earned the same respect with a street in his name in Indianapolis. But in her Instagram Story, Nicole chose Schmitt Street as her next travel destination with her youngest son Nico. This could be one of those rare moments when little Nico gets his first chance to experience his Aunt Schmitty’s remarkable achievement. The whole showcase of renaming the streets is to celebrate a rare occasion.

After Omaha hosted the U.S. Olympic swimming trials for years, Indianapolis won the hosting responsibility this time, and the venue has come out with all its torches. US Swimming and local authorities converted the NFL stadium (Lucas Oil Stadium) into a swimming pool. Now, to expand the razzmatazz, the local city company has chosen the best American names in water sports for generations.

In that crowd of legends, Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt have remained the obvious choices. However, this is the second time the Baltimore Bullet has found his name engraved on a street sign (the first came in Phelps’ hometown of Baltimore). Still, this could provide a reminder of the achievements of the legend involved. In the meantime, it could be a wonderful opportunity for little Nico to get to know swimmer Allison Schmitt, who his father calls her. “greatest support system.”

Michael Phelps’ moments as his brother’s practice partner

In their elite swimming years, Allison Schmitt and Michael Phelps honed their skills under the same coach, Bob Bowman. Despite the high pressure to perform well, both swimmers did not let their bond fade. On the contrary, both stood by each other when adversity arose.

While practicing that relationship, Michael Phelps once said: “Allison is like my little sister, and I love her dearly.” He took a moment to reminisce about his pool days with Allison and later continued: “We’re in the same boat. We’re both going through the same thing, and we’re there to support each other through it all.” Meanwhile, the proud sister couldn’t hide her emotions about her champion brother.

Allison Schmitt therefore acknowledged the base of support that Phelps had built for her over the years: “I look up to him so much.” She soon added: “Anything he says to me, whether it’s outside the pool or inside the pool, I take that advice to heart.” It was clearly visible during the US Olympic swimming trials for the Tokyo Olympics. Michael Phelps took some time off from other obligations and appeared in Omaha to encourage Allison to qualify for her fourth Olympic Games.

Later, a moment of emotion took over when, after breaking the trial juggernaut, they shed happy tears in each other’s arms. That led to Allison Schmitt proudly bragging, “I have lived with him for the past five years; he is like a brother to me.” Nicole has been next to Micahel Phelps since 2007 and is familiar with emotional encounters. With her decision to take little Nico to Schmitt Street, she rehearsed the relationship.
