There is no doubt about who will be in charge of the Denver Broncos in 2024.

Heading into his second season in the Mile High City, head coach Sean Payton has cleaned house of players he didn’t want moving on and is busy putting his stamp on the team.

Never one to shy away from a challenging situation, Peyton earns the respect of his players as they prepare to compete in the tough AFC West.

Star cornerback Patrick Surtain spoke highly of Payton, telling Jim Rome that “he never backs down from anything… He accepts any challenge.”

The Alabama product should know how to evaluate a head coach, having played college football for the legendary Nick Saban.

With just three NFL seasons under his belt, Surtain has already been selected to a pair of Pro Bowls and is widely considered Denver’s best player.

As for Payton, if he brings a championship to the Broncos faithful like he did in New Orleans, he will own the city and the state.

But first he must find a solution to the team’s quarterback problem, as the position is wide open with the departure of veteran Russell Wilson.

Bo Nix was an interesting first-round quarterback selection out of Oregon, and he certainly brings a wealth of college experience to the Broncos.

Whether and when that translates into NFL success is another story.

But, at least for Surtain, Peyton’s job of winning over the team’s leaders is progressing nicely.

Now he just needs to win a few big games.
