Search for missing fisherman has been halted today

TRIBES HILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The search for a missing fisherman was called off Friday evening with no trace of the man. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office called off the search around 6 p.m

The 31-year-old man was first reported missing near Lock 12 of the Mohawk River around 11:35 a.m. Thursday. Multiple different agencies, including the New York State Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, spent the day searching for the man.

Officials said this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the area.

“Unfortunately, there have been incidents all over the river where this has happened before,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith. “It is a populated area. It is a popular fishing location. There are people there, you know, all hours of the day and night. And it’s been a few years since the last one, but it’s definitely happened before.”

Officials said they will continue to search until the victim is located.
