The Curtis Baptist Varsity basketball team celebrates winning the state championship with a ring ceremony

AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – The Curtis Baptist Boys Varsity basketball team received their State Championship rings during a ring ceremony. This is exciting for the team as it has been almost a decade since the school won a championship in 2014.

They defeated Riverpoint Christian 62-57 at the championship game and finished their season with a 29-1 league record.

“We have a very young team. A bunch of freshmen, a couple of sophomores and a couple of eighth graders. And they bought into the system and said, Hey, you know, we got an opportunity to do something special, and during the time we started the first game in November, I saw these guys handle it pretty well were laughing,” said David Salley. Curtis Baptist basketball head coach.

The coach also presented awards to the team, along with state rings, in recognition of the players’ hard work during the season.

“I told the guys, remember this because not everyone gets the feeling of winning a state title,” Salley said.
