Waynesboro man sent to jail after impregnating teen

STAUNTON — A Waynesboro man accused of impregnating a teenager was sentenced to prison Thursday after pleading guilty to five felonies in Augusta County Superior Court.

Carlton J. Williams III, 26, was convicted of three felony counts of possession of child pornography and two felony counts of enticing a child to perform in child pornography. Williams also pleaded guilty to a felony count of consensual sex with a minor.

Augusta County Deputy District Attorney Alexandra Meador said the allegations against Williams came to light in January after the minor filed a report with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office claiming that Williams was the father of her child.

After authorities obtained a search warrant for Williams’ phone, Meador said they found images of the victim in various stages of undress. There was evidence on the phone that Williams had asked the girl for nude photos, according to Meador, who said there was also a photo of him with the girl. The prosecutor said some of the messages on Williams’ phone appeared to show him contacting other minors.

Meador said the girl was under 17 when Willams, then 24, had consensual sex with her. The girl gave birth in December 2023, the month before she went to the sheriff’s office.

In a plea agreement, Williams was sentenced to a total of five years in prison and placed on five years of probation. He will also be registered as a sex offender and must complete sex offender treatment.

When given the opportunity to speak, Williams, who was represented by Trey Raines of the Staunton District Attorney’s Office, declined to comment.

Authorities arrested Williams on March 29, just days after he was indicted by an Augusta County grand jury.

He remains in the Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. Williams will eventually be transferred to the Virginia Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
