Dover Police Host National Night Out Event, Invite Community

DOVER — The city’s police department will host its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 6, according to Police Chief William Breault.

It will be held at the police station at 46 Chestnut St. from 4 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. National Night Out is a time for community members to meet with police officers, discuss issues, learn about what police do and unite in the common goal of crime prevention and safety, police said.

The public will be able to take guided tours of the station and view various displays around the building, including a range of specialist equipment and vehicles. These include a police car, police motorcycle, crime scene vehicle and tactical rescue vehicle. Various officers, including the K9 (police dog) officer, will be present at the event and will interact with the public.

“The Dover Police Department recognizes the importance of interacting with our community and the value of positive partnerships between police and the community. National Night Out provides an opportunity for the community and our officers to meet and mingle in a casual and fun environment. This goes a long way toward solving community issues as a team,” Breault said.

Other City of Dover departments and community organizations will provide health, safety and wellness information. Information on drug prevention, treatment and recovery resources, violence prevention and local mental health resources will be available. The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 443 will be cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs outside the station for free for the public.

National Night Out in Dover is an event for the whole family and is affiliated with National Night Out, which organizers say draws more than 35 million people from more than 10,000 communities across the country.
