Chelsea close to completing deal for Caleb Wiley, player set for loan

Chelsea are close to completing a deal for Atlanta United’s Caleb Wiley, worth £8.5m and featuring a sell-on clause.

Chelsea are close to signing Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United in a deal worth £8.5 million, including sell-on clauses in favour of the MLS club, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are yet to integrate the 19-year-old American defensive prospect into their first-team line-up, with a loan to RC Strasbourg looking imminent.

Chelsea to sign Caleb Wiley

Chelsea have continued their foray into the market by bringing in more young profiles to add to their exciting project. The ownership has not succumbed to the pressure from fans and other sections to bring in established stars as they continue to spend big on young talents from all over the world.

They have been chasing Caleb Wiley for a few days now and it seems that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign the 19-year-old American defender. The defender was not part of the Copa America team, but has enough potential to become a regular for the USMNT in the future.

Chelsea have seen this potential and believe that Wiley can be a great addition to the team’s future. However, the Blues have a plan in place for the young defender as he will be loaned out directly to their sister club in Strasbourg, France.

The Ligue 1 club could be the recipient of a host of other young talents set to arrive as part of their partnership with Chelsea. Wiley could be the first in line this summer, but certainly not the last. Wiley will sign for Chelsea in an £8.5m deal from Atlanta United, as the MLS club will also have a sell-on clause as part of the deal, with the American set to sign a long-term deal until 2031.

Chelsea wants to sign young players

In addition to Wiley, Chelsea have recently agreed a deal for FC Basel’s Renato Veiga, and have also agreed terms for Aston Villa’s Omari Kellyman, among others. They are also keen on Villa’s Jhon Duran, but have yet to make any progress in negotiations for the Colombian striker.

Meanwhile, they are close to completing a move for young Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino and have faced competition for the Boca Juniors star. He and Wiley are coming to Stamford Bridge, although only Anselmino will stay, with the American moving to Strasbourg on loan to aid his development.
