Where to Find Lunch at New Restaurants in the Des Moines Metro

Lunch is making a comeback in the Des Moines metro area. It’s that meal that gives you a break from work, or gives you time to meet a business associate or close a deal. Some of the new restaurants that have opened recently also serve lunch. Two steakhouses have stepped up their lunch game in West Des Moines. And a food hall in downtown Des Moines has three new restaurants with a casual approach to lunch.

The relatively new Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant in Clive offers lunch daily at 11am with upscale, casual fare.

Roots 95 Craft Kitchen & Bar in Johnston serves lunch every Tuesday through Saturday at 11am, featuring bao buns and bang bang prawns.

Destination Grille in Grimes serves lunch daily starting at 11 a.m., featuring bacon-wrapped scallops, lobster macaroni and cheese, or chicken parmesan.

Newcomers Hugo’s Wood-Fired Kitchen and Table 128, from chef and owner Lynn Pritchard, both offer lunch. Hugo’s, with its Mediterranean menu, opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, while Table 128 and its farm-to-table fare opens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Even restaurants that have long been staples of downtown Des Moines, like Southern eatery Bubba, modern Americana restaurant and Court Avenue Brewing, still serve lunch.

Now, two steakhouse restaurants in West Des Moines are expanding their lunch options.

New lunch at Fleming’s

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar launched lunch on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. Some of the new options include the Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse burger or the filet mignon sandwich. The menu also includes the Cabernet filet and a baby kale and beet salad with filet. The restaurant also has a crispy king trumpet mushroom po’boy and a chicken sandwich.

The restaurant serves non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as a blueberry lemon drop, margarita and a jar of California jam with vodka, basil and strawberries.

Find it: 150 S. Jordan Creek Pkwy., West Des Moines, 515-457-2916 or flemingssteakhouse.com/locations/ia/west-des-moines. Lunch starts at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House lowers its fixed price

Prime Hospitality Group, the franchisee of Ruth’s Chris Steak House in the Midwest, has reduced its lunch and dinner prix fixe prices by at least $15, according to a recent press release.

For lunch, $36 gets you an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Stuffed chicken breast, baked ahi tuna salad, and steak frites are among the entrees. A steakhouse salad, Caesar salad, or soup of the day can be ordered as an appetizer, while a carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese frosting caps off the meal.
